OpenOffice.org 2.4 即將提供 OpenGL 的 3D 過場動畫，使播放投影片時可更具吸引力。其過場動畫包含反轉方塊、旋轉立方體、迴旋圓形、旋轉內立方體…等，並於 Youtube 上展示所有效果。

OpenOffice.org 3.0 期望可與 Outlook 競爭

於一個月前 OpenOffice.org 2007 研討會當中，有份投影片中指出，希望在下個重點版本可以與 Microsoft Office 競爭。這份簡報提到希望可以整合 Thunderbird 到 Office 套裝軟體中，並且擔任 Outlook 替代品的角色。假設近期 Thunderbird 失去兩位主要開發者的消息不影響這個決定，OpenOffice 想要在納入 Thunderbird 確保這套電子郵件軟體仍會繼續開發。

這樣的策略雖然可能無法影響大型企業放棄使用 Microsoft Office，但卻有機會能夠吸引尋求節省成本的小型企業。

OpenOffice.org 2.3 發佈

OpenOffice.org 2.3 發佈。此次發佈最重要的更新是新增 OpenOffice.org Extension。如同 Firefox 一般，OpenOffice 開始提供延伸套件，開發者可以自行開發 OpenOffice 的外掛程式來擴充功能。目前已上線的外掛程式不多，但相信不久的將來會愈來愈多的擴充程式浮上檯面。

Linux.com 的 Bruce Byfield 貼出了他第三篇針對 OpenOffice 以及 Microsoft Office 的比較。這是他第一份比較 Microsoft Word 2007 以及 Open Office Writer 最新的版本 2.3。在少數的項目中，Word 2007 取得了優勝，但多數項目都由 Open Office Writer 2.3 獲勝。

但這次的比較結果，跟之前的比較並沒有太多的不同。

of using Python to automate report generation with OpenOffice.org. Python
is a scripting language well known for its readability. OpenOffice.org is a
famous open source office suite including applications like write
