轉信者注:
1. Xutf* 等函式已 commit 進 CVS tree(XFree86 4.0.2)。但
目前有人建議撤銷,還在吵,台灣也有人加入在吵(不是我,
暫時還不夠格)。:)
2. Markus Kuhn 先生提議 2002.01.01 全面進入 utf8 locale,
捨棄其它 locale。
3. Xutf* 等函式會和 XLC/XIM/XOM 衝突。
理解如有錯誤請指正,我只是來打打小報告讓居士失眠一下而已。:D

Impossible.
Such requirements must be unacceptable to the people in some countries.
In such countries, people wish the gentle transition to Unicode,
and disagree the extreme transition. It seems for me that such gentle
transition has been doing seasonably, at least in Japan.
If X.Org and/or Li18nux should require the elimination of non-UTF-8 locale,
such requirements would be ignored simply and it would only spawn many
unconforming implementations to keep their backward compatibility.
I believe both X.Org and Li18nux do not take such decision.
Similarly, I think XFree86 should revoke the Xutf8* functions,
since these essentialy conflict with the XLC/XIM/XOM framework and
it makes essential incompatibility.
I think XLC/XIM/XOM framework is enough for handling Unicode under X,
and this can keep the backward compatibility perfectly.
